The play that changed my life was A Chorus Line. It broke such new ground in so many ways that I was never the same person afterwards, and I felt that Michael [Bennett] had his thumb on the pulse of the zeitgeist because that spoke to old grandmothers from New Jersey — that spoke to everyone. And, I’ve just seen Hamilton, and that is equally transcendent. A Chorus Line, when I saw it, I saw it originally in the Newman [Theater]. It had only been playing like ten days. I was out of my mind. I said, “This will echo for decades,” and last night I saw Hamilton in the same theatre, and for the first time since, I thought, “This will echo for decades.” It’s a triumph. It’s a masterpiece. It’s completely new. That’s the event of the decade. – Holland Taylor
